The Future of Cosmetic Packaging

At present, cosmetic packaging is mostly paper products and plastic products, the raw material of the former is trees, and the raw material of the latter is petrochemical products. Relatively speaking, paper packaging is easy to degrade, plastic packaging will cause a lot of white pollution, and it is not easy to degrade after recycling.

But papermaking can be remedied by "cutting down a tree and planting a tree" without reducing forest cover. The conclusion is that paper packaging is more environmentally friendly. But the data suggest this is not true. From the perspective of global forest coverage, Japan is about 67%, Germany is about 30%, the United States is about 33%, and China is only 16.5%. Europe, the United States and Japan have high forest coverage, small population, high per capita forest coverage, cutting down a tree and planting a tree will not affect the ecological environment. However, China's forest coverage rate is low, the population base is large, the per capita forest area is 1.9 mu, only 1/5 of the world's per capita. Compared with Europe, America and Japan, paper packaging is obviously less than demand. In order to meet the market demand, the cutting rate is higher than the planting rate has become an inevitable result.

Paper packaging is easy to degrade, but in a sense, it is not friendly. Therefore, strengthen the research and development and promotion of biomass materials, such as biodegradable materials PLA, PHA, PCL, PBS, PBAT, PPC, bio-based PE, bio-based PET and other new materials have become one of the future development directions of the cosmetic packaging industry.
